Midwinter horns

Members of midwinter brass musician group 'Van Hakken komt Blazen' will once again blow their horns blow across the museum grounds and the IJsselmeer on Tuesday December 28th. Midwinter horn blowing is an ancient tradition originating from the 9th century, and was originally intended to bring back the light during the dark winter months. The tradition is mainly practiced in the Achterhoek and Twente, but it is found in North Holland as well since some years ago. Would you like to know what the horns' mysterious sound is like? If so, visit the museum on December 28th, and be enchanted by the magic of the midwinter horns. Various demonstrations by the members of the brass group will be held starting at 12:00.
